As a designer, I'm constantly on the lookout for the latest and greatest trends in the world of home design. Now that we are seeing signs of Spring, there are a few key themes that I'm seeing emerge. Here are my top 8 trends that I predict for the coming year!
1. SUSTAINABILITY

First and foremost, sustainability is a huge focus for many! As we start to see more sustainable materials and products on the market, the more we are choosing to focus them into our home build and our interiors. Some fan favourites are bamboo, cork, and recycled plastic, as well as natural fibers like wool, cotton, and linen.
2. BIOPHILIC DESIGN

Another trend that's gaining popularity is biophilic design, which brings elements of nature into the built environment. This can include things like indoor plants, natural light, and materials that mimic natural textures. Not only does biophilic design look beautiful, but it has also been shown to have a positive impact on mental health and well-being.
3. MULTIFUNCTIONAL FURNITURE

As more and more people work from home, there's also a need for multifunctional furniture. Desks that convert into dining tables, bookcases that have a hutch, sofas that double as guest beds - these are just a few examples of the creative solutions for your space that are becoming increasingly popular!
4. COMFORT

Comfort is another important factor. After a year of lockdowns and social distancing, people are seeking out spaces that are cozy and welcoming. This means plush fabrics like velvet and corduroy, as well as soft and furry accents like throw pillows and blankets.
5. PERSONALIZATION

Personalization is key in the world of interior design, make your space reflect you! This can include family photos, heirlooms, and other meaningful items, as well as colors and patterns that reflect their personalities.
6. PATTERNS

Mixing and layering patterns is also a trend that's gaining traction. Rather than matching everything in a room, people are now combining different textures, prints, and colors for a more dynamic and interesting look.
7. MAXIMALISM

Minamilism is out and maximalism is in! People are starting to embrace the excess and go against the "less is more" mentality. This style is all about layering and mixing different elements to create a space that is bold and full of personality.
8. OUTDOOR LIVING

Outdoor living spaces are becoming more and more popular as the line between indoor and outdoor spaces blurs. From outdoor kitchens and fire pits to comfortable seating areas, people are looking for ways to make their outdoor spaces more livable.
Whether it's through sustainable materials, biophilic design, or simply adding personal touches to a space, these trends reflect a desire for homes that are both functional and nourishing for the soul. I can't wait to see what is to come this year!
